The battle was fought from 13th to 15th of April 1865. It was fought between the armies of General Joseph E. Johnston and Major General William T. Sherman. On the 17th of April 1865, the two generals met in Bennett Palace. Terms and conditions were discussed which led to one of the largest surrenders of history.
In 1875, Morrisville was chartered but was again removed from incorporation in 1933. In 1947, the charter of the Morrisville neighborhood was restored.
